a day in the burbs

July 27, 2010

Last weekend Jo and Pete packed up the twins and took the show on the road… to our house. These little New Yorkers enjoyed the green grass and the super warm temps while splashing around in the kiddie pool in our backyard. Another thing they don’t have in their Upper West Side apartment? Stairs. Emily and Michael turned one in May and recently started walking. They did a lot of exploring in our house and upon discovering our staircase, they headed up to the second floor more times than any of us care to remember. I’m sure Jo is really glad their apartment doesn have a single step! Emily is a lot more smiley these days. During all of our other visits she used to stare me down with a really intense look, but now she is seeming more lighthearted and fun-loving like her brother.

I can’t believe it’s been a year since Emily and Michael were born. Having no kids of my own, I worried their first birthday party might be a dangerous experiment in controlled chaos, but the afternoon went off without a hitch. Of course their mom was an event planner in her previous life and I should know better than to underestimate her party planning skills. We caught up with Jo and Pete’s family and the afternoon’s musical entertainment proved that children’s songs have not changed much since I was a kid.!

Little Noah is about to get a baby sister in the next few weeks, but I don’t think he’s worried about a new arrival.
At last week’s baby shower, he was under the spell of the hypnotic sweet swirl of the lollipop.  Noah

meet: tai

April 18, 2010

Today little Tai went on her first trip to the Yale University Art Gallery. She’ll be celebrating her first birthday in June, has two super cool parents (Peter and Salem, the owners of Huntington Street Café) and her own adorable little calling cards. Our trip to the Eero Saarinen exhibit the very first time we caught up with Tai and she is all smiles, even with those new teeth coming in…TaiTaiWe took a few photos inside the YUAG inner couryard. I LOVE: felix doolittle

January 18, 2010

In 2009, a record number of my friends had a baby (or two, in the case of Jo & Pete) and it’s always a struggle for me to figure out children’s gifts.  This past Christmas, Felix Doolittle’s new Junior Wordplay Medallions were just the ticket. These circular labels feature his signature watercolor illustrations and can be customized as bookplates or simply used for staking claim on any of your wee-one’s worldly possessions!  They’re printed on premium paper and the luxe feel makes you want to save these for something special.  Felix Doolittle: Personalized Stationery, Invitations, Cards & LabelsIn a shrinking world of handwritten correspondence, Mr. Doolittle’s stationery shop constantly inspires me to send more snail mail.

Meet twins Emily (left) & Michael (right).  I haven’t seen them in a few months and they were more interested in the camera (G10, point and shoot) this time around. It’s easy to see their different personalities, even  at 8 months.  Emily is quite a kicker and really pretty intense when she’s checking you out!  Emily & MichaelMichael is still curious, but a bit more laid back.Michael

introducing: baby charley

November 3, 2009

I dare you not to smile when you see the happy baby Charley. I met this California baby on my recent trip to Moline.  His parents (architect/urban planner duo) had a lovely blog during the year they worked abroad in Beijing.  I keep trying to convince them to start another one from LA, but I’m sure they are otherwise occupied with parental duties!  On another note, who knew baby specs were so stylin’?Baby Charley
